Zico Pure Coconut Water

ziconaturalNext best thing if you do not have access to an Asian market that carries young coconuts. Very refreshing and delicious tasting, although not as “coconuty” as fresh out of the coconut. Zico markets these as a natural sports drink because it has the essential electrolytes to help replenish your body. They are low in calories, with no added sugar and gives you a boost for your workout. Excellent! Only 60 calories per 11 oz carton. Great alternative to those calorie filled sports drinks such as Gaterade and Powerade. I love this new find! Zico offers 3 flavors, natural, mango, and passion fruit. Of all three flavor, the natural is definitely my favorite. I remember drinking fresh coconut water straight from the fruit when I was a kid. It was really fun hacking open the coconut. Sweet and all natural. Yummy.  The flavored ones doesn’t really work for me because I feel like it masks the true coconut flavor that I enjoy when I want to drink some coconut water. The coconut flavor is not strong in the first place, so the added flavors takes away from the original product.  I’m probably going to used the flavored ones to make those cute little tropical smoothies Zico features on their website. All 3 Zico varieties have similar stats. One 11 fl oz carton is 60 calories, 0 WW, no fat, no cholesterol, 60mg of sodium, 670mg of potassium, 15 grams of carbs, no fiber, 14 grams of sugar (not added sugar), 1 gram of protein and other vitamins and minerals such as calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium.  Coconuts get a bad reputation for being high in fat and cholesterol, so naturally, people may think coconut water shouldn’t be healthy either. Check out Zico’s FAQ page to find out why that is not the case for coconut water.
