Ficoco

Picture 030Can you guess what type of spread Ficoco is just by deducing from the name? If you guessed figs and cocoa then you are one smart cookie. Ficoco comes in a dainty little jar. You can see tons of fig seeds in the spread and you get little chunks of figs here and there. This has cocoa powder in it, but don’t expect a deep cocoa flavor. The jam is a dark plum-ish color. Fat-free, but not sugar-free, so treat it like you would with any jam. Honestly, I don’t even need a full tablespoon to evenly cover my Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin toast. More liquidity than regular jam which makes it easily spreadable. After you refrigerate it, the consistency becomes thicker and more jam-like. Very “seedy” so be careful of tiny seeds getting stuck in  between your teeth. I think the seeds adds a little something to the texture of the jam so I like it. A nice change from my usual strawberry or blueberry jams. Fig lovers will like this, but those who don’t like  sweet stuff probably won’t. Besides enjoying this on bread, makes for a great stir-in for oatmeal, Greek yogurt, and ICE CREAM. One tablespoon is 60 calories, 1 WW, zero fat, no cholesterol, no sodium, 14 grams of carbohydrates, no fiber, 13 grams of sugar and no protein. Ingredients: figs, pure sugar cane, cocoa, fruit pectin, and citric acid. This is some SWEET stuff and a little goes a long way. Made is Croatia. Tons of unique recipes online. Foodies are so creative.
